Composition & Songwriting Lessons
Lessons are available in person at Symphonos Studio in North Highlands CA, or virtually on Zoom.
What you will learn:
Music theory
How to read and write music notation (notes, rests, symbols, and expressions)
Musical concepts (chords, scales, melody, harmony, rhythm, etc.)
History, form, style, and performance practice of western art music (classical music) & popular music
A collaborative exploration of any genres of your choice (listening, analysis, contextualization, artist biographies, etc.)
Technique
Proficiency in the music notation or production software of your choice - Finale, Sibelius, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, etc.
Instrumentation (how to write for each instrument) and orchestration (how to write for a group of instruments)
Writing for the voice - lyrics, understanding range and voice types, performance practices across genres, etc.
Optimizing rehearsal time in preparation for performances
Mindfulness and holistic health & well-being
Ear training
Listening, comprehension, and music in its historical context
What you will need:
An open mind and an appetite for the study of music
Music notation or production software - Finale, Sibelius, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, or your choice
A device with Zoom installed & internet access (for virtual lessons), preferably the same device with your music production software for screen-sharing purposes
