Written and performed by: Carlos McMillan Fuentes Date composed: 2/2/2002 Date performed: 10/28/2013 Copyright 2013 This was my first real attempt at writing a faster, virtuosic piece of music -- and boy, was it difficult to learn! In the original manuscript the sixteenth note runs were taken entirely by the left hand. Some careful redistribution of the parts made the piece much more playable. The piece takes as its model the "Fantasie-Impromptu" of Chopin, and it even includes a direct quotation from the famous work (at 0:16) which is repeated several times. The form is a clear and straightforward ABA, with the B section in the parallel major (D-flat). This work was given the subtitle "The Tornado," as I used to be very interested in meteorological phenomena.

Written and performed by: Carlos McMillan Fuentes Date composed: 2/15/2002 Date performed: 10/28/2013 Copyright 2013 Here is the second half of Opus 2 -- the first song, for voice and piano, that I ever "composed." It's a work called "To Love You" and it was written in February 2002, while I was a student at Durham School of the Arts. My wonderful chorus teacher, Mrs. Scott Hill, graciously allowed me to perform this work (with vocals lent by my friend Terrell Hayes) at the DSA Chorus Concert later that year. It was the first ever "premiere" of any of my compositions.
